COUNCIL PROJECTS

The Council supports projects of member institutions in various ways: sponsoring or administering grants, providing partial financial assistance, or simply writing statements of favor. Members seeking Council participation in their projects should submit requests to its office, via either mail or email.

The following is a partial list of projects the Council has supported over the years:

Edwin G. Champney Notebook

In 1990, the Council purchased the notebook of Edwin G. Champney containing a collection of 59 sketches of coastal scenes from the Civil War. Champney, a Union soldier stationed in eastern North Carolina, created this notebook between 1862 and 1863, sketching scenes of his service in New Bern, Kinston, and on Hatteras Island.

Queen Anne's Revenge Shipwreck Project

The Council has supported fundraising and administered grants in excess of $200,000 that have facilitated much work on this major underwater archaeological project since 2000. For more information on progress, refer to the project website at www.qaronline.org
